Jerry Garcia Band - Hot Tuna (1988) - my first Bill Graham Presents poster; for an acoustic concert at Standford's Frost Amphitheare. Printed by Great Impressions, San Francisco.
The Wailers at The Fillmore (1988) - my first Fillmore poster; Bob Marley's band along with Joe Higgs and C.K. Ladzekpo perform as part of a Reggaefest series for Bill Graham Presents.
Johnny Winter & John Mayall at The Fillmore (1988) - the perspective distortion to the ticket image was done by hand; no computer access in those days.
That Petrol Emotion - Voice of the Beehive (1989) - a collaboration with Dave Kenton, SF artist, who did the airbrush work.
David Crosby at The Fillmore (1989) - intended to reflect a new beginning and comeback for Dave, as he looks to the sunrise over the Golden Gate and SF skyline. Printing: Great Impression, SF.
The B-52s at The Fillmore (1989) - the band was not entirely pleased with their outstanding poster by Arlene Owseichik, SF artist extraodinaire and art director for BGP. In an effort to appease the disgruntled B-52's, Bill ordered this second poster, which I did not enjoy doing (so in love was I with Arlene's delightful masterpiece).
Eric Clapton at Shoreline (1992) - Eric and special guest Curtis Stilers perform at the Shoreline Amphitheatre for Bill Graham Presents. A framed copy hangs in Graham's office building on 5th street, SF. My wife and I were treated to box seat for the splendid concert.
yours truly - a pic of myself and a couple of my works on one of several walls covered with historic posters inside The Fillmore auditorium in San Francisco.
The Cramps at The Fillmore for Halloween (2000) - this design had originally been approved for the Halloween concert of '89, but one day before it was to be printed the big earthquake broke The FIllmore and the concert was cancelled; I was brokenhearted. Eleven years later I noticed the Cramps were again slated to do Halloween, and I asked the art director Arlene Owseichik if we could dredge up the old design and happily she was all for it. Of the posters I have done, this one is my favorite, and I'm happy to say was very well received.
skull exhibit - The California Academy of Sciences museum in Golden Gate Park opened a fantastic skull exhibit in the early 2000's. Among the displays were prints of about a 100 or so art works by classic artists as well as bay area notables like Rex Ray and Stanley Mouse. I was asked permission to display my Cramps poster, and of course quickly agreed. This poor photo shows me with my original drawing next to the poster mounted in a choice central location at eye level.
Bill's Birthday Party at The Fillmore (2005) - a bit of frivolity for the first annual celebration of Bill's birthday, put on by the Bill Graham Foundation. Printing: Great Impressions.
Opening event - NYC Fillmore (2007) - commissioned by the Bill Graham Foundation to promote a special event at the opening of the new 'Fillmore East' in New York City. Sadly (and surprisingly) ticket sales were weak and the event was cancelled.
Promotional poster for a documentary film concerning the legendary and influential rock guitarist Mike Bloomfield. Commissioned by Ravin Films in 2013.
