Concept:
This month of Hygienetown magazine featured stories relating to the oral – systemic connection. Put simply, the oral-systemic link states that the health of your mouth can effect the health of the rest of your body. So if your mouth is unhealthy, odds are your body is unhealthy, too. This illustration needed to be easily modified for a variety of stories. I wanted to make sure this piece included the act of things entering the mouth, the factors of periodontal disease (gum disease) and blood flowing from the mouth into the body to be distributed to the various organs and tissues.
Execution:
This piece is part photo-manipulation and part illustration. I found multiple stock images of body parts, blood cells, bacteria and pollen to be used for this piece. All elements were assembled in Photoshop 5.5.
