Targeting Xerostomia
Concept:
This edition of Hygienetown featured articles surrounding xerostomia: a condition where your mouth is perpetually dry and can lead to a whole host of health problems. I needed to create an illustration that could be used in a number of articles throughout the magazine. To convey the uncomfortable feeling of dryness int he mouth, I turned the tongue into a parched desert. The Creative Director wanted to include one of the most common symptoms of xerostomia – cracks in your tongue.
Execution:
I started with a basic generic 3D rendering of a human mouth, which I further enhanced and painted the illustration on top of in Photoshop 5.5 with a Wacom Intuos5 tablet.
