Designer: Veronica Jenkins | Project: Conceptual advertisement for a new mystery novel. | The Inspiration/Solution: Inspired by the 1947 film noir classic “Lady in the Lake,” this book is the creation of the film’s famous character, Philip Marlowe. The artwork features a mysterious “femme fatale,” a hard-bitten detective and a city at night all working together to pay homage to film noir. | Programs: Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/Indesign | © Veronica Jenkins | 2014
Designer: Veronica Jenkins | Project: Redesign of cover of the 1978 novel “The Mirror” by Marlys Millhiser and Facebook presence. | The Inspiration/Solution: “The Mirror" is a novel I read in 1978 and is still one of my favorite books. The novel is about two women -- a granddaughter and grandmother who are switched in time and with each other on the eve of the granddaughters wedding day, by way of a malevolent mirror. The mirror and the Victorian house that it inhabits, are important characters in the book, so they share the cover along with the heroine. | Programs: Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/Indesign | © Veronica Jenkins | 2014
Designer: Veronica Jenkins | Project: Redesign of the cover of the 1974 novel “Nella Waits” by Marlys Millhiser and Twitter page presence. | The Inspiration/Solution: “Nella Waits” is a supernatural novel about the spirit of an overprotective, malevolent mother who wreaks havoc on those around her son. Nella’s house and the weather elements are important characters in the book, so they share the cover along with her malignant stare. | Programs: Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/Indesign | © Veronica Jenkins | 2014
