Project Abstract:
To design an inexpensive electronically controlled bed frame, for people who require a sloped bed, that slopes the bed rather than bending it, can adjust the slope of the bed at night, and can make it level during the day.
Research included: 23 retail-visits, 13 in-person interviews, 45 brand audits, 6 trendscapes, 1 factory visit, 2 web surveys and 5 technology explorations.
Final design utilized electric scissor jacks attached to the undercarriage of the bed frame to raise and lower the mattress platform. This redesign of the bed frame can be paired with current bed layouts and meets the design criteria. Design sloping solution cost about 97% less than the prior folding bed options.
