Walker for Elderly people

Mobility aids are devices that helps elderly people, disabled or injured person to move from one place to another as independently as possible. Depending on the needs they vary from a simple walking stick to a complicated mechanized wheel chair, to make the person self-reliant. Many elderly people remain deprived of mobility as they cannot afford for the aids required. Walkers are the most common and affordable mobility aids, which help the elderly people to maintain personal safety and independent living. Most of the injury-related deaths among elderly people are caused due to unbalanced falls and walkers provide additional support to maintain balance or stability while walking. This project is to design and develop a low cost walker-cum-seater for elderly people, which will enable them to move around independently whilst they can use the seat in the walker for resting when they are tired or wish to relax at home or parks or other locations.
