The client, a successful electrosurgical equipment manufacturer, approached us with an opportunity to spruce up an aging laparoscopic device. It suffered from limited mechanics, poor ergonomics and the lack of a modern aesthetic required to compete successfully in an aggressive, standards driven sector where patient health is paramount.

Internal and external critiques of the current device coupled with in-depth competitor analysis allowed our engineers to isolate key focus areas: improved movement with better look and feel through better materials = better design.
Armed with this and drawing upon in-house medical industry experience, we explored the paths less travelled before the eventual filtering and development of a single chosen solution.
