As part of a collaboration between the stroke association and Glyndwr university in north wales during the global entrepreneurship week in 2011, students were asked to design innovative solutions to enable stroke sufferers to continue carrying out everyday gardening tasks. ts design provided design and prototyping support to the students, creating links with higher educational institutions and inspiring creativity amongst potential future designers.

Research was carried out through the stroke association’s wealth of knowledge upon potential users’ needs, with colour, shape, size, grip and ease of use forming the key principles leading the design. The final design addressed the needs of the user, through wrist support, bold colour choice, clear definition of features and extra grip upon the handle surface area.
