This is a Martial Arts Publication I made in my Typography and Design Systems class called: Melee Systems Manuscripts. This magazine features stories of new; up and coming Martial Artists from all around the world and highlights advanced fighting techniques anyone can use.
I also crafted the book's aesthetics to mimic the appearance of a martial arts scroll in order to keep in line with the theme of combat sports. The text and paragraphs are structured around a rigged grid system within every page of the book. At the same time, the pictures invade the text space in order to counter balance the orderliness of the grid. This is meant to emulate the relationship between yin and yang and give the publication its ink scroll look, while also keeping everything readable.
