Disk Brake Clock-From old spare parts that can no longer be used, I created some clocks. The parts had to be fully refurbished since they were cover in rust and had lost much of the old slotting. Angle grinders, and wire brushes with a little time and elbow grease was the call of the day. I completely got rid of the rust on the hub(The center part that is silver), but left the tarnished look on the contact surface around the perimeter. The mounting sheet for the clock movement was fabricated up using 0.060" aluminum which I brushed for some texture and detail and riveted it to the disk hub. I did a lot of searching for the perfect clock hands. I wanted them to be similar to the needles on an old speedometer. I finished it with a couple layers of clear coat. Stay tuned for the next version coming in the new year.
Home-made Drill Press. Why spend $200+ dollars on a drill press when all the materials are just sitting around in my garage waiting to be made into one?
Prototype 1 - Almost Carbon Fibre Tie - I am trying to develop a tie that looks exactly like carbon fibre but isn't. The first prototype has some major flaws that need to be addressed. This whole project started as a tie idea for my brother for Christmas.
Prototype 2 - Almost Carbon Fibre Tie - Even though this tie concept is better than the original, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Who new that this material was going to be so difficult to work with?
The Whole Family in all it's glory. I developed the idea with the intention of this being a family portrait. You can see my wife is the only one that is actually ready for the camera.
Hecubus leaping at me. He kind of psycho in real life.
Me being attacked by Hecubus.
Mittens, our 6 toed cat being his regular curious self.
My beautiful wife all dressed up and ready for the picture to be taken. If only the rest of us could be ready too.
On June 5, 2012 the last transit of Venus in front of the Sun until 2117. I'm a bit of a astronomy nerd so I knew I could not miss this day. So, with a bunch of scrap wood, and extra hardware I built a Sun/Venus Transit Projector. The only thing that was new was the monocular I used to project the image. It worked perfectly.

This is what was projected on to the screen. The camera does not show the clarity of the sun/sunspots, and Venus. It was very cool.
This was a shot I took of the transit using the projector. I used a blue filter because it helped show up the planet Venus in front of the Sun better.

Modelmaking and Prototyping

Most of my modelmaking these days is for my own benefit. I always enjoy doing these things with my hands to keep myself active. Plus the end result is usually something kind of special.
