Abstract Wheel Clock

In order to gain entry to The Florida State University Interior Design Department, students are required to take four classes. A portfolio is then created, using work from those classes, and the faculty assesses the top 40 applicants. The final project required us to make a clock that replicated one of our other projects and "did not" use numbers, but instead used cardinal points. One of our previous projects required the use of a wheel chair and introduced the students to ADA. This is where I drew my inspiration. I decided to abstract the wheel and spokes in order to form the cardinal points. I then decided it would be fun to use a play on materials and make what was a square piece of wood look like it was a round piece of plastic. I did this by using flat/matte colors on everything except what would be the tire. When approaching the "tire" I decided to make cuts into the outside, in order to replicate a tread, and then finished it with a high gloss black paint.
