Lacrosse.com Unleashed - Ad created for the relaunch of lacrosse.com. I created this ad from scratch using textures, patterns and inspiration from the lacrosse.com web team. I created the box illustration in Photoshop.
adidas Predator ad - Two-page ad for adidas Predator footwear. I handled the concept and execution of this ad as well as the photo direction. The ad worked so well, that the product sold through in a month.
Outerwear Spread - This was my first real attempt at this type of apparel styling. The blue jacket was a great material to work with and shows the best result, I think. The others are 100% polyester. Difficult to work with.
Barcelona Tour ad - Ad to promote the FC Barcelona website in North America. Player images were provided. I created the background based off the imagery and built the layout. This ad appeared in a Spanish language sports publication entitled Futbol Mundial.
Ad for hummel apparel - For this ad it was my charge to create something from nothing. It's true. I had no initial direction except for which jersey and short to show. After doing a little research into the hummel brand, I decided to take this tabloid approach. hummel has a history of positioning themselves as current, trendy and slightly offbeat. I felt like this approach would work. After seeing the ad, hummel agreed without any modifications. It's a strong visual stop for the casual reader.
2008 Ad for Lanzera apparel - The basic concept for this ad was provided by the product designer. I used his ideas as inspiration to create the carbon fiber background and circular grating. The model is a coworker of mine. I worked the original color file of him into the high contrast image you see here. The overall monochromatic tone of this ad lends an industrial and edgy bit of quality to a fairly simple jersey.
Ad for Vici Soccer - Vici provided the text and soccer player image. The background is a stock image tweaked in Photoshop. I created the motion trails and glow effects in Photoshop as well. Simple, but effective.
Newspaper ad for H2O Plus - The set-up here is fairly simple. The real challenge was spooning rapidly degrading foam all around the product while not getting bubbles on the product, in time for the picture to be taken. Belk rarely ran full-color ads in newspapers. Which is a shame, since this product was very colorful. I provided the photo styling and ad layout. Photograph by Richard Woodson.
Full-page newspaper ad for NINE WEST - The large logo, loosely tracked and leaded copy, simple product imagery and good use of negative space support the high-fashion image of NINE WEST. I provided the photo styling and ad layout. Photograph by Ray Barbour.
Full-page newspaper ad for SAVVY jewelry - Working for an in-house ad department offers the designer the opportunity to do it all. From concept to layout to photo styling and production. I worked with photographer Ray Barbour to create this image.
Small magazine ad for Godiva Chocolates - Less of a layout sample and more of a photo styling piece. During the early 1990's I was one of the principal photo stylists for Belk Hudson Leggett department stores in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area. I worked with photographer Richard Woodson to create this image for Godiva Chocolates which ran in a local holiday gift guide.
Ad for Lanzera goalkeeping gloves - This piece posed an interesting design challenge. In that I helped design the gloves and then I designed the ad. Heavy use of black was an obvious choice for this promotion. Black has always been associated with attitude and affluence. Goalkeepers need both. It also provides great visual contrast against the yellow areas of the gloves. The copy and the background art speak to the importance of the hands, the goalkeepers main tools, and to protection.
