The PCR-SDM (Polymerase Chain Reaction - Self Diagnosis Machine) is a concept designed to lift the strain from overcrowded GP surgeries. It does this by having each booth placed in a pharmacy, where the patients process their own samples. Not only does this make the public take a more active role in their healthcare, but it also provides an excellent alternative to visiting a GP for health issues. The PCR machine will be able to diagnose people with urinary tract infections, influenza or other common diseases regularly tested for in labs up and down the UK.
