I developed this poster as an employee of The Software Engineering Institute to give young people (grades 6-12) a glimpse into some popular career paths in software. I wanted the poster to be non-technical in nature and something kids could relate to. I tried to accomplish these goals by including experiences that aren't typically valued by kids as part of their career path, such as playing a musical instrument or learning a language, and including experiences the people in the poster weren't very successful in. The poster was well received at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C. in 2014. Our staff can also use the poster to participate in career days or science fairs at local schools.
