Axis Digital Talking Book for the Visually Impaired and Physically Handicapped - Axis was an entry in a competition sponsored by the Library of Congress and IDSA. The purpose of the competition was to empower students to create the next-generation electronic talking book. These machines are used by millions of people around the country who are otherwise unable to read standard text. Axis is full of tactile cues for easier use such as varying textures and raised button labels. The high contrast color scheme and larger buttons also serve to create an optimally relaxing and enjoyable listening environment.
Design Inspiration - Our final iterations of the design were inspired by the manta ray. The fluidity of its movement and softness of form were immediately attractive and useful to us as we finalized our design.
