Vitra Showroom

The design for the Vitra showroom located in Culver City, California, was derived from the pieces of furniture that Vitra sells. Classic favorites such as the Panton chair and new concepts such as the Joyn table inspired the molded staircase and continuous display system. The idea of furniture that is made of one solid piece led to the “ribbons” that form a wall, then a stair, then a display, then a ceiling and then back to a display again. This dramatic element is experienced as soon as an individual enters the space for maximum impact. The “ribbons” fade away to created a gallery for Vitra miniatures and photographs to be displayed. The color palette is neutral and the plan is minimal so that the pieces of furniture can stand out .
