Boarding for Breast Cancer

Boarding for Breast Cancer is a non-profit organization based out of Los Angeles. Their mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle. They reach their target audience of young women ages 15-30 through snowboarding, skate boarding and surfing.
The Boarding for Breast Cancer Women’s Center would be a facility that brings together young women that enjoy boarding sports and young women that are trying to cope with cancer. The goal of the facility is to bridge the gap between the two groups through volunteer work, education and a common passion for boarding, music and art. The building chosen for this project is located in Costa Mesa, California in a former warehouse located near John Wayne Airport. Boarding culture is popular in Costa Mesa because the city is a few miles from the beach, a few hours from local mountain resorts and surrounded by skate parks.
