Final half scale model Exposed cages hint at the skeleton architecture of fames/subframes in which hydrogen tank, oil tank and exhaust are contained. A nice V2 engine provides the low grunt torque and fantastic sound while essentially nothing but water vapour exits into the environment.
The design includes single front arm hydraulic center hub-steering, a single rear suspension with hydraulic drive...
No CAD on this project, just good old-fashioned marker renderings and 2D drawings from which the design took shape...
The modelmaking took over three solid months with over 500 handbuilt parts. Good fun...
The lower section, exhaust takes shape... the metallic blue was an offical VW car color, I seem to remember...
Yellow foam, all carved by hand, primed, sanded, then primed, sanded etc...
...and some more sanding...
Needless to say, the lights on the model worked as well :)

H2 Motorcycle

And now for an oldtimer project... I designed this reptile on wheels in 1992 (where did the time go??) :)
This hydrogen-powered V2 engined bike predates the current hybrid/Prius/batttery-driven age by a few years.
I wanted to show back then that environmental consciousness and the fascination of motorcycling/speed can go hand-in-hand.
The design process was explicitly non-digital (as it really was irrelevant in product design back then, too slow, 3D programs too much in its infancy). Good old fashioned sketches and modelmaking created this beast. The H2 is a half scale model comprised of about 500 handmade parts...

I hope you find that it still has relevance and a timelessness about it.
After all, this motorcycle design is about exposing the marvels of design and engineering instead of hiding everything behind a 'pretty' shell, not just a styling exercise...
