I enjoy collecting tools and metrology equipment, and this stand is for a nice set of Wera Kraftform Micro screwdrivers that I wanted to be able place as a set anywhere as needed,. I wanted the design of the stand to be as compact as possible; minimizing the footprint, while still having the tools organized and easily accessible. In the other pictures you will see how I took several design elements from the Wera brand and the screwdrivers specifically to create the stand.
This is a completed print of screwdriver stand. It was printed upside-down. I planned this from the modeling stage since I knew I would need what would be the top to be wider than the bottom. From there it was keeping design features complementary the upside-down requirement.
In this image the it shows the feet of the stand. The foot print of each foot is the exact same shape and dimension of the vibrant green slots that go longitudinally around each screwdriver. The slots are the same width, height, and radius. There are also six feet as there are six slots on each round on each screw driver. The feet are lofted up at that exact same profile.
Here we have the stand sitting in the proper orientation. It can be seen now that I have decided that the optimal orientation would be to have the six screwdrivers arranged in a hexagon. This keeps the screwdrivers close together, but leaves a gap in the center to place a finger when reaching for a screw driver. An orientation putting the screwdrivers closer together, although reducing the footprint, makes it more difficult to quickly and easily take out screwdrivers.
Here I am showing that the there are still design elements from the Were screwdriver everywhere. The six arms that extend out into the modules that hold the screwdrivers mimic the dimensions of the slot; as is in the legs. The legs actually loft into the arms.
The legs sweep up and down in a zig zag shape so the feet sit beside the shaft of the screwdrivers as to not impede their path.
The ribs on the screwdriver holding modules are the same thickness as the links of the slots on the screwdriver, and there are six of them; just like there are six legs, and six screw drivers.
You can see how the set is displayed elegantly but is still optimal for functionality. This a common theme in my designs; the belief that good form is merely a product is good function; whether it be interpreted one way or another.
