On completion of Passenger Terminal 2, Passenger Terminal 1 will be decommissioned. The future use of the building depends on the passenger traffic development.
Giving a new function to an existing building is a well-known sustainable approach, meaning no disposal from demolition and no expenses for new construction. Moreover, the Passenger Terminal 1 is an emblematic building with high architectural value. From marketing and political point of view, the reconstruction of this building will be assessed positively by the society.
The location of Passenger Terminal 1 - central for the airport, with fast road connection to Varna, combined with the available parking facilities and the perfect view over the apron holds undeniable benefits. The large structural spans allow flexible planning which multiplies the possibilities for choosing the right new function of the building.
Proposed are two concepts for future use - an Office Centre and an Expo Centre.
