826 VALENCIA BVHM IN-SCHOOL POP-UP CLASSROOM 2015 : "Temporary" intervention where a San Francisco-based writing and tutoring center supports elementary and middle school teachers with writing programs in a formerly unused space - in this case, a girls' gym locker. All construction, regardless of duration of end-use, had to be impermanent with a light footprint. Goals were to provide lighting, dampen acoustics, and create a cohesive space for classes of 30+ students and tutors. Given the organization's "nautical" themes, and suggested by the existing industrial materials and exposed pipes, we played with the idea of both the interior and deck of a merchant marine vessel. All hands on deck, both designer and a small team of volunteers sewed, rigged, and sourced everything from canvas, to vintage accessories, to new furniture. Designed and executed unifying signage and artwork for everything from name tags, to porthole clocks, to a painted bulletin board. See also : Illustration/Print
