Joyful Commuting

My team and I examined the “Aesthetics of Joy,” and considered how they could be applied to the context of the the train station.

In addition to looking at existing research about Boston’s MBTA and the psychology of commuters, we conducted site visits to local train stations and one-on-one interviews with a diverse group of train riders. We used this data to identify areas of opportunity where principles of joy could be applied, as well as to construct a user archetype to guide our design.

We then generated ideas for how to apply joyfulness, and selected one idea to refine. During the refinement stage we conducted user testing which informed the direction of our final concept.
