Peranakan Performing Arts House
Year 3 project. The brief was to design a Peranakan performing space at a site that is beside the Singapore Peranakan Museum. Dondang Sayang, the primary Peranakan tradition performing art, was chosen as the main anchor of the Peranakan Performing Arts House.
There are 3 main ideas that form the driver for this performing arts house. 1: the nature of spaces for Dondang Sayang and the use of courtyards; 2: an inspiration by the Peranakan traditional embroidery art; and 3: the stitching of spaces from the Peranakan Performing Arts House to the existing Peranakan Museum.
