Measuring Vanishing Point + Perspectives Observatory
Year 2 project. The first task was to conceive an original apparatus that measures anything of our choice. My apparatus seeks to measure the impossible- distance from where we stand to the imaginary vanishing point.
Conceptually, the apparatus acts as our 'eye' and the upper and lower flaps are adjusted to become parallel with the converging lines of the space. On the flaps are carefully calculated exponential coefficients to be multiplied to the real distance of the space where the apparatus is standing, to 'get the distance' from the apparatus to the imaginary vanishing point.
The second task was to apply the essence of the first task into a piece of architecture. The perspectives observatory is a small building with many calibrated 'eyes'. The person undergoes a sequential viewing experience that the 'eyes' offer that stitches together and culminates into a 360deg view of the surroundings. The views chosen all have a common meaning: the significance of females on the site.
