On-Edge Lamp - On-Edge is a lamp which only switches on when it is off the edge of the table, and it is made of rubber. When it is fully on the table it is off. This switching characteristic and the fact that from far away the lamp glows from the inside and resembles frosted glass, gives a feeling of suspense, as the initial gut reaction of people seeing it hanging off the edge of the table is going to be “Oh no! It’s going to fall”. Of course the lamp is made of rubber, so if it falls it won’t break, but even knowing this the reaction should still be present because it is such an engrained reaction.
(Un-)Stable Stool - (Un-)Stable is a stool which at first sight looks extremely unstable, because it is an awkward height and the legs come down square to the seat, making it look like it will topple over as soon as it is used. When one sits on it, it initially reacts as expected: the legs splay out, and the seat slips down towards the ground. Not only is the feeling of instability confirmed, but it is enhanced even more. But after this initial moment, the legs lock in a splayed position, so that the stool actually becomes extremely stable, countering our expectations about it and creating a pleasant surprise: the stool is actually very usable.
Impolite Coffee Tables - The nesting tables don't quite nest though they look like they do. But they connect in a different way... when something is spilled on them they stain in a pattern and the pattern connects through the three tables.
