Key Hanger - Filigree is a work of a delicate kind made with wires or ribbons usually of gold and silver and involves soldering them together to form an object. This art was present before 12th century but became very popular in Europe, Egypt and Asia in 15th century. In India this craft is still practiced in its primitive form and recognized in the Telangana district of Andhra Pradesh, near Hyderabad.
I attended a ten day workshop in Silver Filigree along with six of my batchmates. The attempt was at helping in bringing this craft out of its redundant state by molding it for the contemporary niche market. We worked on a range of new forms, newer products and combined different crafts and materials like wood, stone and glass.
