Ghirardelli, History of Chocolate

Domenico Ghirardelli made and sold chocolate in Italy, Peru, and then moved to California with his chocolate business, because of the excitement of the California Goldrush. He brought with him special cocoa seeds from Peru and sold chocolate down the road from a popular gold mining spot in Northern California. Once again, chocolate was a great source of energy to many men working hard at the gold mines. The typeface used is ITC Cheltenham, developed by Tony Stan. Stan designed several other typefaces for ITC, but this one became the most famous of his designs and is known for its use in the headline for the New York Times.
