Roxboro Art Club
During an internship at Roxboro Elementary School, I was able to run an after school Art Club for students in grade levels 2-5. The main question posed to the young artists of the two 6 week programs, was "What is the perfect world?" The question introduces the elementary students at Roxboro Elementary School to the basic process of conceptualization as well as unconventional media for art making. Each student was given a print out of a flatten globe and was given the choice to work individually or collaboratively. Working with a 24” by 16” mounted base, students worked successfully on creating a formally more interesting and inventive piece. Using 3D materials or 2D materials, students where able to value their individual ideas and come together and create a larger body of work everyone could take pride in. In general, the central theme of ‘what is the perfect world?’ allowed for the creativity to flow out of these young artists and be centralized into a body of work.
