Los Caprichos
This project is an exploration of appropriation. The concept was to create a conceptual series using pre-existing visual imagery. In this project, I was able to appropriate the work of two different artists into a series of composite art that I also denominated, Los Caprichos.
Los Caprichos employs the reinterpretation of the 18th century etchings by Francisco Goya, and the elusive contemporary sculptures of the Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare. It is a project of satirical nature with subtle layering of meanings, which aims to re-contextualizes the contemporary American society by opening a critic window of self-expression, and self- interpretation.
