Working as a freelance engineer retained for a tool making company. This company is supposed to produce a tool for a customer. For this purpose a severely damaged sample of the component (body) has been digitised (scanned). A point cloud file produced by scanning is provided along side with a picture of the conceptual model.
You are required to:
• Pick up the design concept from the point cloud of the digitised component and create a solid 3D CAD model and a 2D technical drawing for manufacture. Check the model accuracy.
• Modify the model in order to make it suitable for die-casting. Design a set of moulding dies. Test the mould.
• Incorporate the retailer’s logo (relief) in the design.
• Simulate the manufacture of a prototype of the component in aluminium. Estimate the machining time.
• Present a full report and all working files.
