Der Mond
A series of images based on the short opera by Carl Orff, written in 1938, and based in turn on an old German folktale about four men who steal this luminous object called the Moon. Many years later, one by one, they die, and because they shared the Moon equally in life, so did they in death, with each man getting a quarter of it in his casket. They wake up in the Underworld and, needing light, put the Moon together, which wakes the Dead. A huge celebration ensues, bringing St Peter down, who puts the Dead back to sleep and then sets the Moon loose in the sky so no one can steal it again..
