Hugging chair

This is a reading chair, designed for prolonged, relaxed use. It accomplishes this through its physical qualities: its proportions, the curve of its seat, its gently angled back, and a slightly flexible frame which responds to the user’s body. But its invitation is emotional as well: its asymmetrical, curving wings enclose the user in a space that feels secure: one feels embraced by the chair, or perhaps held in a large hand. The idea is that the chair exudes something akin to concern the user – one feels almost taken care of by the chair. It’s a space that helps the user achieve a special level of calmness and relaxation, perfect for extended periods of reading.
