E-pa
The E-pa is new musical instrument designed to fit both traditional and modern performance. It is influenced by the traditional Chinese musical instrument -- pipa, and the guitar. It started with the idea of enhancing the usability of the traditional pipa by changing it from acoustic musical instrument to electric one. And also, going through ergonomics study to make it more user friendly. Since the pipa shares twelve-tone equal temperament with many other string instruments, it can be tuned differently for different performers and settings. The modernized shape and sound of E-pa can be accessed by people from different cultural background.
