Altered Landscape
ABOUT//
The landscape draws the photographer. This may explain, in many ways, its dominant position in the field of photography. Early photographers like Carleton Watkins overcame great logistical adversity in their attempts to capture the beauty of the wilderness, previously confined to paintings. Today, imagery of our altered landscape can still convey the majesty and vastness of the natural world, yet also acknowledge those who inhabit it. In this respect, the traces of humanity in these images speak to the isolation of both the landscape and the people who occupy it.
