Translating the form language to this model size intact took several rounds of refinement.
This project did not involve a physical style model, only scan data of the internal components, so there was some freedom to adapt the shapes.
Airflow around and into the top cover is critical, but so is prevention of water ingress. Engineers used the surface data to create production Pro/E part CAD then designed the air intake tract to fit into the cover.

Mercury Marine 40-60 HP Motor Cover
Using Alias I modeled a new outer shape for the 40-60 HP motor range. The shape updated the appearance to match higher and lower models in the family. Internal and external hard points had to be accommodated.
