The Collective Factory, Sneinton

My final project was the design of a Collective Factory, a place where technical experts, new startup companies and the local community of Sneinton could come together to use shared resources for the design and manufacture of artisan furniture.

The redevelopment of the former bus depot site is intended to act as a catalyst for the economic renewal of Sneinton. New startup companies are be housed in the former garage to the south of the site, with a new cafe, assembly rooms, a huge shared machine hall and spaces for community groups to the north.

The existing Art Deco façades are retained with new glulam structures inserted behind & through them to facilitate the programme, creating new public spaces in between. The façades of the assembly spaces open up to allow interaction between the artisans at work and the locals walking down the high street.
