Conceptual Personal Hair Care
I first sketched this take on a contemporary hair-dryer in response to a #weeklydesignchallenge. I’ve tripped over or had to untangle a knotted power-lead too many times! Most of the problems occur when users put down and then retrieve the hair-dryer during the hair-drying process, often adopting elaborate head, arm and wrist orientations to best direct airflow.
I’m surprised at the lack of development in this market, particularly regarding a product with huge levels of saturation and so commonplace they’re provided in hotels! Brands invest heavily in R and D in other areas of hair-care (both durables and FMCG), and of course Dyson recently entered this market after applying their huge research, design and development capability and tackled the science behind drying hair.
I created a quietly dominant design language that gives users an obvious rest position which adds hugely to UX throughout use and allows consumers to stand and display their purchase between uses.
