Operable Wall Panel Mechanism
A manual drive mechanism and frame for an operable exterior wall panel installed in the Desert Courtyard House in Scottsdale AZ, designed by Architect Wendell Burnette.
The panel frame was clad with 1/8" thick stainless steel on the interior and 1/8" corten steel on the exterior and weighed approximately 1,200 lbs. The mechanism incorporated as much counterballast to make the hand cranking force nearly effortless.
Designed while Senior Designer with Turner Exhibits, Lynnwood WA who fabricated and installed the mechanism.
