Chinese Arts and Culture Academy

An education instituition to practise, preserve and promulgate Chinese arts and culture, housed under a building with a unique balance between modern architecture and classic Oriental interior. A clubhouse in Petaling Jaya - a satellite city of Kuala Lumpur - is selected as the building to be refurbished into the proposed design. Maintaining the existing concrete structure of the clubhouse, new spaces and forms are established around it, weaving through the framework like calligraphy strokes. The building reflects a traditional Chinese quadrangle house, called a siheyuan, that has a central courtyard surrounded by learning spaces. Using contemporary materials alongside with traditional Oriental elements, this academy aspires to prove that Chinese arts will continue to thrive in today's society.
