construction

A study of the tilt-slab construction method used to build the Chapel of St. Ignatius by Steven Holl. Drawings detail the lifting and interlocking of concrete panels, as well as, the unique window and roof conditions that support Steven Holl's concept of "seven bottles of light in a stone box." The fact that all, except one, windows exist at the edges where the concrete panels interlock is significant. This placement of windows emphasizes that the harmonious experience of the chapel comes to life through the connection points and the unique, yet perfectly interlocking panels.
