First Year BA (Hons) - Architectural Design Project

My Initial conception and inspirations for ideas came about from researching into the technology of current semi-detached house layouts and overall design aesthetics. One thing that remained the same throughout was the idea of simplicity. I tried to focus on smooth geometric designs using clean lines and highlighted on the aspect of natural light. The involvement of glass was majorly influencing me to design a house that offered great natural lighting.
My inspiration came from concept houses such as these. The roof shape and slope inspired my roof design, the removal of trusses and bracing to be replaced by exterior glazing. The decked balcony leading onto the rear of the site would give the masterbedroom a fantastic view of the river Itchen and the best sunlight in the morning. The idea was that the sunlight would creep through the top windows and into the bedroom first thing in the morning to give an air of comfort and subtle tone to the design.
