Z chair - Based on a seat, surface, storage project that began nine years ago by a Virginia Tech alumni, this stool was developed to address the ever growing needs of multi-purpose lecture halls, and museum spaces, where seating is limited or distracting. Its ability to fold flat and hang on the wall allows for the space to be manipulated for a variety of uses.
SideKick Personal Pediatric Device - SIDEKICK is designed to empower pediatric patients ages 6 to 12 by curbing intense fear and providing consistent comfort throughout their hospitalization. With SIDEKICK, a pediatric patient can a) explore a virtual community where all pediatric patients can interact, encouraging physical play, b) learn about their particular condition c) stay in contact with friends and family through video conferences, email and instant messenger, d) watch entertainment provided by a television, DVDs, mp3s and even parent-recorded lullabies, and e) store personal artifacts from home, art supplies or pictures. SIDEKICK empowers a child with the necessary knowledge, community support and entertainment to brave any medical treatment.
Samples - These images represent a series of projects and pieces that were completed through out my duration as a student of Virginia Tech. They range from group projects for nationally recognized competitions, to sketches and renderings for other aspects of my student career. Also shown is an independent study of plywood and its flexiblilty in establishing a comfortable space for the home or apartment. The result was a lounge chair that accomodates all heights and alllows a supreme level of comfort through the back’s ability to move independently.
fauxHOME - Shelters for the Mental Rehabilitation of Disaster Victims. Many natural disasters end in the displacement of large groups of people. This thesis provides these people with shelter that will facilitate mental healing and protection from the elements. It will be cost effective and easily transportable, as well as easy to produce, set up, breakdown, and maintain.
Childrens Furniture Project - The project began with thorough research on the specific dimensions of children in the specific age group and how they encounter their surroundings, including but not limited to furniture and modern day installations. Initial ideas called for a simple concept that engaged the child as well as provided a place for sitting.
