The Plumb Lounge Chair is the second project produced for a sustainable furniture design course. The chair utilizes scrap PVC pipe and discarded construction lumber.
The chair’s backrest created by heating a length of pipe under a space heater until pliable, then wrapped around a form. The seat was made by splitting a section of 6” PVC lengthwise, then heating and flattening the material. The corners were then rounded and the edges curled.
Hand turned hemispheres act as end caps and feet. Furniture nuts attach to threaded rods inside the legs and support members and are tensioned to give the chair rigidity without the use of adhesives.
