The illustrator’s toolbox is made of two poplar slabs that have been milled using a custom router jig.
Routered slots hold markers, pens, and pencils, while the open void on the opposite side stores flat tools like rulers and templates.
A silicone band wraps around one half of the toolbox. This band indicates the top of the toolbox and sits flush with the wood surface, giving the lid a pleasant textural variation. A second band wraps around the entire toolbox to keep it closed during transit.
The toolbox was designed to fit in backpacks and messenger bags.
The walnut and brass rod hinge allows the toolbox to open completely and lay flat.
The silicone band, retained by brass bars, keeps markers, pens, and pencils in place during transit.
