Redbull Flugtag
In the 100th Red Bull Flugtag we achieved the longest flight distance.
In 2011 I decided to enter the Red Bull Flugtag with fellow design students Jack Healy, Niall O’Loughlin and Henry Daly. The event was being held in Dun Laoghaire. Due to exams we only had one week to design and build our flying machine.
We used PU insulation panels, Light wall aluminium tubing and polyethylene film commonly used in bailing wrap on farms to create two very lightweight 4.5m wings. The trolley used for launch was made from rough sawn timber and launched the flying machine from 2.4m.
We were awarded €1,000 for flying furthest and came 3rd place overall.
