SEER- Hydrogen Sulphide Protection

Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) is a toxic gas which is released during agitation of slurry on farms. At low concentrations the gas has a characteristic offensive odour, yet in high concentrations it is odourless. The maximum permitted limit of exposure to H2S in the workplace is 50 parts per million(ppm), yet it has been shown that farmers are exposed to levels higher than 200 ppm. As H2S is a heavier gas than oxygen it will displace any O2 in the air leading to an oxygen deficit at low level. If a farmer inhales any air at this level, it may lead to a fatality. SEER Protection creates a system in which farmers are fully protected from the dangers of Hydrogen Sulphide. The system consists of a detection unit, located at each agitation point, and an emergency response kit. This kit includes two respirators, an oxygen tank and an oxygen attachment for the respirator.
