Observer - Mechanical Wristwatch

The Observer GMT is inspired by the history of sea navigation, and how tools such as a marine chronometer were essential in measuring a ships location at sea. These tools ultimately led to the establishment of Greenwich Mean Time, thus making Greenwich the centre of the world in terms of timekeeping. The gyroscopic function of the chronometer allowed for accurate timekeeping at sea. This feature is carried into the watch’s design as the center piece can be rotated in order to reveal the GMT function on the back of the watch. The purpose of the GMT is to symbolise the fact that all chronometers were set to time at Greenwich. At the center of Greenwich lies the Royal Observatory, it was here that the time at Greenwich was defined, making it pivotal in creating Greenwich Mean Time. The name Observer represents these navigators and how they used chronometers and sextants to map their journey and discover new locations.
