I designed this poster as an info-graphic to address the problem of energy scarcity, sustainability, and renewing resources. I was hesitant to approach this contest from the view that we have a right to energy. Energy is a service that we pay for, not a God given right. Life, Liberty, Freedom, these are rights; rights that can be enhanced and promoted with the access to energy. It is for this reason that we have a obligation to use energy in a responsible manner.
The recycling movement has been utilizing the mantra “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” With this poster I wanted to explore the often glossed over aspect of recycling; the reduction in energy use, or to add to the alliteration “re-energy.” The percentages on the yellow tags of this info-graphic represent the amount of energy that can be saved by recycling assorted materials rather than manufacturing “virgin material”.
