I belong the the Rho Pi chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. One of my favorite traditions that we have is that we make a paddle for our "big brother". While fraternity paddles are associated with paddling and hazing at Rho Pi they are a sign of woodworking, craftsmanship, and hard work. With the use of only hand tools the letters and seal are hand chiseled and the whole plank is hand planed to either end according to set schematics.
