Kodak T700 Advantix APS camera (2000)
Endorsement from Frank Skop - Senior Designer Kodak "Richard provided Industrial Design support for Eastman Kodak Company, supporting the Corporate Design and Usability Division. We had the opportunity to work together on two Advanced Photo System camera programs, the T700 and T570. Richard and his team created a wide range of innovative concepts for these two programs. His contributions included sketch concepts that investigated different ID & brand language ideas appropriate to the APS market segment. Several concept directions were selected and each was then refined to address the specific product needs. As the designs matured, great effort was placed on usability and detailing and this was reflected in the deliverables provided. The T700 won an iF Design award for design excellence. Richard maintained an open line of communication and responded to requests and input quickly and effectively. The T700 met schedule and the T570 was completed ahead of schedule."
This composite image shows almost all the design development stages of the T700. After we presented several form factor ideas, 'SQUARE' was the preferred concept route chosen by Kodak marketing, and was iteratively developed, from the first visual renderings through to an appearance model, then finally to the full production design, which won an iF award in 2001. In the latter stages of the design project, we collaborated closely with Kodak's engineering team in Rochester, using a concurrent process, involving iterative design detailing and rapid prototyping, as well as close liaison with Kodak's Japanese manufacturing partners. The T700 also has a registered patent for a unique industrial design feature, designed by hollington.

Kodak T700

Kodak T700 APS Camera - I led a holligton team which created the Industrial Design & brand DNA for two Kodak APS cameras. The T700 (pictured) and the T570. Rather than try to compete head to head with Canon APS products, we created APS market differentiation for the Kodak brand.
For the T700 we designed in some attributes and benefits, suited to the rigours of travel, which would appeal to an end-user market segment called the Vacation Traveller.

The T700 won an iF Design award for design excellence.

For the T700, we created a differentiated brand identity and positioning for Kodak compete in the European APS market. The hollington team designed the Kodak brand DNA, later used when creating the industrial design for the T570 APS camera.
